PROJECT DESCRIPTION
I've shot a lot in the Tokyo streets over the last couple of years without being able to link them, and so they remained "one-offs" until I thought of a concept that perhaps links them all - a kind of awkward elegance that you see here - not a natural elegance as in Vietnam but... awkward as I say.

Also I have very little confident in the mass of Nizamuddin muslim community shots I took in India. I fear they may not go over well here so, until I'm ready with those, perhaps I can make do with these street @ics.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Nizamuddin sits between a rock and a hard place in the heart of modern Delhi - desperately poor, this sufi community tries to keep its traditions alive while the harsh winds of fundamentalism blow hard about the youth. Again and again I returned there in the daytime and twice at night, sometimes feeling almost welcome, at other times as if I were walking among the Taliban.

I apologize in advance for the raw feel of many of these pictures - those looking for the customary tenderness of my night photos from Vietnam and Cambodia will be disappointed but I hope these rough, hastily taken shots honestly reflect both my interest and my trepidation as I walked around...

Come, come, whoever you are.

Wonderer, worshipper, lover of leaving.

It doesn't matter.

Ours is not a caravan of despair.

Come, even if you have broken your vow

a thousand times

Come, yet again, come, come.

(Sufi poem by Rumi)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Spent ten nights in Morocco during the holiday break. Flew into Casablanca on the 25th of Dec, spent one night, took the train next morning to Marrakech. Spent three nights in Marrakech which included a day trip to Essaouira, a small fishing town on the Atlantic coast. Then moved to Fes where I spent another three nights. Next stop Chefchaouen, a small hippie town in the Rif mountains. After spending two nights there I moved to Tangier. Two more nights there, then crossed the strait and went to Granada, Spain. Flew back home on the 8th.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The second weekend in January in Japan traditionally marks "seijin no hi" or "coming of age day". Everywhere you can see 20 yr old girls dolled up in garish kimono and enormous white fur collars. There is something touching about this day however, because the well oiled machine that is corporate Japan will soon swallow up all these young flowers and their half expressed dreams.

I've tried to capture this festival for years now but it was not until this year, in the company of Inn Michaels and her husband geert, who were passing through town that I was able to get close to my goal. This simple little project is the result...

Hindus do it.  Sikhs do it.  Muslims do it.  We tourists do it.  Let's do it.  Let's read and write our way through the Golden Triangle!

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A collection of daytime disparate images taken mainly on the streets of Tokyo.  Again, not sure how this project will turn out, but I'm looking for honest feedback.
