PROJECT DESCRIPTION Coney Island is located on the southernmost part of Brooklyn. It is a NY neighborhood on its own with a very diversified population. It hosts an amusement park, a baseball team, the Brooklyn Cyclones, named after the famous roller coaster ride. The place is a true piece of Americana, with its Little Mermaid Parade and its hot dog eating contest. The park went through a pretty rocky history, it opened in 1903, was destroyed by fire 40 years later, and its future remained very uncertain for a long time. Coney Island was supposed to be knocked down to make space to condominiums. I can't explain the feel of the place, it is certainly unlike any other place in New York, but it is a whole lot of fun, never a dull moment in Coney Island. |
