Tanna (Tah)
Lea makes awesome cooking at Resolution bay.

You just have to come and she'll cook the chicken running outside with the organic carrots and taros growing in the volcano ash.

Lea is french speaking and like all french speaking nivans, her life hasn't been fair since 1980, her husband died ten years ago and she couldn't survive alone in Port Vila with 4 kids, so she went back to her village in Resolution bay on Tanna and she had the idea to open up a shack and cook food.

Now the tourists and especially the french speaking ones, know where to meet Lea whenever your stomach is calling on Tanna.

Women cooking.  How many times have we seen women cooking?  But here it just seems like I'm seeing the whole cultural act for the first time.  Really unexpectedly lovely, this photo.  (Maybe I'm just hungry.)  Yeah, it's what Francis says.  The glance backward from the leader, while the assistants are still concentrating on the task at hand.  And, yes, again, as in Francis's night market shot, that glance backward from the woman, being photographed by the man, is somehow the very essence of the photographic impulse.  (But, watch out, buddy, she's got a big knife there!)
The backward glance towards our brother Luko here lifts this environmental group portrait from the merely competent to something far more resonant, and moving...
The everyday lovingly captured.
