I fully endorse Francis' comment here. Despite the cuteness factor, the photo elevates to an elegance that is rare.

There is, inevitably perhaps, still something of the "cute kid picture" about this one but it is really well composed... organically I would say, the way the boy seems almost at one with the tree, with the elements along the vertical frame. Good work, Steve.

I believe it could be discussed really deeply why "cute" kids are such taboo subjects these days to photograph. Many, including HCB did shoot them with impeccable taste and power. Also look at Simon's and Eric's wonderful children shots from South East Asia and Africa. This child also is beautiful, fresh and open, and Francis has put it well, organically fused with the tree behind in a nice diagonal composition. Again, the tones are fantastic. Very nice and emotional work without a hint of saccharineness.
