Dont kill me if this is a faux pas but Im posting this sgain, its in the suggestions forum which isnt very lively. When I see the word draft I think of something temporary. So Im confused about the draft zone here. It seems that when we draft a photo it is moved there but we cant change it IN the DraftZone. We have to re-upload a new version that goes to the top of the gallery. Ill post something I wrote to Eric about how I see this: ---------------------------- Im confused though. You say this new method allows us to keep the comments but that isnt quite right because by uploading the new photo we start with no comments. Comments are left in the draft but nobody will see them. I really dont see much of a difference between this and the "Francis" option. Im still curious why you wont do it the flickr way where we can simply drop a new version of a photo a substitute it for an older. It would avoid the problem of a lot of old photos re-appearing again. Also, I dont see why the "online" option is only once a day in this case, we should be allowed to move photos in and out of draft freely since no new photos are being uploaded. For example I dropped 10 photos into the draft. That means 10 photos of an old project will re-appear when I start re-uploading them. But the project has 11. With a 10 photo limit how do I draft the 11th? How do I draft another project? What if a project had 20 shots and somebody wanted to redo the whole thing? He couldnt do it because 10 photos would be in the draft, for the other 10 he would have to do the Francis option. I propose the following: 1. Allow us to change as many photos as we want at the same time. Use the draft zone, allow us to substitute photos and re-load them online. But not to the top of the gallery. 2. If you still want the 1 reupload a day option, then do that but again allow us to do it by drafting a photo, substituting it and "onlining" it without getting it back at the top of the gallery. In this way we get to keep the comments physically under the photo. And thats what is important. --------------------------------- So what do you think? I read the arguments from mods, and I remember something about somebody being able to secretly upload offensive things or porn if total freedom was given. Cmon, who among this group would do that? I think that the admins should trust us, you did afterall invite some of us and accept others....you know us. I am all for more flexibility and this I think is crucial. Allow us the flexibility to manage our gallery. It will only be good for PH as it will raise the level of projects and work overall.

Let me add this I heard that some admins are afraid that this will lead to people showing more photos than they are allowed. If the way a photo is changed is by keeping it on the same page of the gallery as the old version I dont think this is a real problem. If Im changing a photo that is on page 14 its not exactly the best way to do it. A better way would be to erase a photo and put up a new one. PLUS it would look really silly if the critiques under the photo didnt match. Now, where a discussion with Eric took my thoughts is to a theard I started at my beginnings here. WHAT do we want from this place? In that thread I suggested that we might have the talent here to do something MUCH better than TE in terms of structure. By that I mean that being just a smalled version of TE, a photo sharing site, isnt enough. What we should strive for is to be a CONTENT driven site. That means creating very good content and trying to go that extra step. I think we could do something as a collective. As I told Eric, lets think as a collective. If we do, then good content shines on all of us, and if we think like that, then we should have flexibility to manage our projects so that the best content is here. And that means that its VERY possible that projects will be in a constant state of flux: new photos, new sequencing, new editing.... But this requires that we have freedom to edit and flexibility in the mechanisms.
