Are we free?  Laden with global commerce, compulsion for wage, profit, striving to rise...are we really free?  But freedom took a different meaning in the context of a chain on the ankle that kept victims in Tuol Sleng women's isolation ward fettered until they were flailed into desperate and fictitious confessions, resignedly incriminating other innocents, and then to meet their inevitable fate in the dark of the night.

Strangely, or perhaps not so strangely, I can't help thinking about all the young prostitutes you see all over Phnom Penh.  So, you have the liberated girls their on the moto, but just down the block are surely modern-day captives of that same ideology that proposes freedom.  Just as enslaved and just as abused as the women in Tuol Sleng were -- only for different motivations.

It's a really interesting, challenging and thoughtful series, Animesh.  Which is no surprise from you, of course.  Best, -h.
