Would it be possible to be able to have a photo appear in moe than one project? let's say it fits into a project well but also fits really well into another project. A good option would be to allow a photo to be uploaded once but be able to have it appear in more than one project. It would appear only once in the main Gallery but it would appear also in each project. For example I have one photo in my Ghostly interactions project and nother in my Family Ties project that would be ideal for my current Handbook project. I would never upload them again but theres no reason why it shouldnt be possible to have them in the project.

hehehe I know repetition is the power of advertisment Rafal, but you might take it to far here in my opinion come on you're a good enough photographer to suprise us with something new man...

as you say " I would never upload them again" I think the answer is hidden there...

my 2 cent

I agree with Jorrit! The idea of adding new shots is indeed a treat and that would be a pity to add the feature you are proposing.. Just my 2 cents!

Well, I for one have been thinking about that option for awhile now. I agree that if it were to be added that it shouldn't be a re-post and it shouldn't be in the gallery more than once, but to have a photo in more than one project would be a useful addition in my opinion.

Theres no reason one photo cant be in more than one project. I dont know why this is such a "bad idea". I dont see how it would hurt the site if we were able to place one upload in 2 or even 3 projects. IMO it would simply improve the strenght of the projects and would avoid repetitious uploads which would ofcourse be bad. Its not about surprising people with new work but building projects.

Jorrit, Im not sure what you meant. Are you referring to me redoing an old project to "self promote"? Do you think I did that for this reason? I told people from the beginning, don’t comment if you commented before and wish not to repeat yourself. I was willing to go through the 17 photos without a single critique. I did that for myself to have as good a content as possible. That’s all.

The way the site is done if you want to change photos via the now available draft zone then you will have to upload new projects. I’ve asked many times for there to be an option of changing photos silently, the way it is on flickr. Re-uploading photos was the last thing I wanted to do. I had to do it because for me this site is about building content more than anything else. I wanted to improve a previous project silently so nobody would notice. That’s currently impossible but I heard the admins are working on it. I hope that will be available soon.

as you say "I would never upload them again" I think the answer is hidden there...

I have no clue what you mean. If you want to change a photo for whatever reason you are FORCED to re-upload. There’s no other way now on PH to change photos you aren’t satisfied with. I proposed an asy solution. Re-upload photos in the draft zone, then click on-line and the new version will silently slip into its place in the stream, be that the 1st, 2md, 10th or 30th page. Nobody would notice.

Again, if we were able to easily put a photo into more than one project with a new upload where would the repetition come into it? As things stand now, nobody (except for a few people) is really looking and critiquing projects so I doubt many would notice that the same photo appears in one or two projects.

Aah sorry I missed your response Rafal, let me clarify a few things here,

No, I didn’t meant to say that I see redoing a project as way to self promote, of course not. I understood perfectly well why you did it. If at some point the holiker is unhappy with the contents of a project there’s no reason not to change it, that’s why I believe building a project is a dynamic process and not a static one.

What I meant to say is this: If I buy an album of an artist and I find 1, 2 or more the same songs on it from a previous album, I am disappointed. Not to speak about the soulless ‘best of’ albums the market is flooded with. It might sound strange to compare a photo project to a music album, but I find a lot of similarities here, since we give it a title and then fill it with ‘tracks’ and look for symbiosis.
Of course there are a lot of artist that bring a different version of the same song and, while technically the same song, it can in a broader perspective been seen as a different song. In photography that would mean a different processing, a different crop from the same file or negative. I can understand that perfectly as long as the impact is different as well. So in the broader perspective we could speak about a different shot here and a new upload.
To be honest Rafal, I don’t really care if the moderators decide to change it, I am just saying I don’t see it as an improvement…

cheers
Jorrit
